A few years ago, I found myself in the middle of what I can only describe as a marketer’s version of a sprint marathon.
The organization I was working with had just pulled off a clever series of M&A moves — the kind of deals that doubled the business almost overnight. It was a textbook example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts: two strong brands coming together, instantly gaining market share, competitive advantage, and a louder voice in the industry.
And the pace was faster than any of us anticipated. The mergers escalated quickly — deals closed, teams merged, and the scale of the opportunity was suddenly much bigger than our systems could support.
